My phone isn't working?!
Many of you are familiar with the internet, chances are you are reading this online, but as sophisticated as it is, there can still be problems. The latest big outage was with Amazon Web Services. Just off of the name, it seems pretty inconsequential, but looking further, you find that around 50 Million websites run off AWS. Many notable outages are as follows; Amazon, DoorDash, Fortnite, Google, Netflix, PlayStation, Reddit, Snapchat, and Spotify. These are websites/games that people use everyday, and possibly rely on for work, which caused millions of dollars lost, according to the CRN Magazine.
Many at Palisade High School were affected by this outage, like Sophomore Reese Edmonds, who states “The outage affected me a little bit, mostly in my classes. I wasn’t able to get work done because it was not functional.” This raises the question of is this going to happen again? The straightforward answer is yes. As the internet evolves and more and more websites are created and used, the higher chances are of an outage. Outages happen all the time, for example in the beinging of the year, Google Classroom was having problems but they always get fixed. Many probably share the same sentiment as Reese Edmonds, of not being able to get schoolwork done, which probably affected their grades.
This outage was not local, but worldwide, which affected everyone in some way. Amazon Web Services offically appoligized for this outage. According to Yahoo News this outage effected some customers phones, causing bad WiFi and outrage mainly to Verizon customers. Outages like these that seem small and insignificant can have a huge impact on the internet and those using it. Always remember the internet is a crazy thing and can go down under the right circumstances.
