Francisco Garza and his truck, post crash in Palisade High School parking lot.
Last week, Palisade Senior, Francisco Garza, got into a car crash that could have resulted in a fatal tragedy. Garza stated that his crash was after school, right as he was pulling onto the Palisade frontage road. “I just wasn’t really paying attention, and I rear-ended the car in front of me, but I swerved so I hit the back tail light,” he stated. Garza said that after he hit the car, “I swerved into the ditch, I was drifting in the ditch and then I caught myself, and went back up on the tracks.” Garza also states that he was about to be hit by a train, but thankfully got out just in time. “I reversed off the track, and then there was a train coming and it barely missed my truck by six inches,” he stated. Garza stated that after the crash, he checked on the other car to make sure that they were okay, then went to the hospital, “they told me I was okay.” Thankfully, Garza didn’t cause too much damage to his truck either, explaining, “It just kind of crumbled up the frame, and that was it.” The crash could have been much more fatal than it was, and thankfully, Garza made it off the train tracks before it was too late. Many Palisade students are licensed drivers, and need to better understand the importance of paying attention on the road, because there could always be a time when a student isn’t as fortunate.
