Four Sophomores Arayah Love, Hadley Fenske, Eva Grako, and Kilee Hean holding Taylor Swift's new album.
October 3rd at 12 am ET, the world famous Taylor Swift dropped her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl. This album is a pop album with a lot of high beats and lively songs, having almost 100 thousand streams on Spotify. Her fans are giving very mixed signals when judging and comparing The Life of a Showgirl to her past albums. Swift had released many merchandise along with the album including CDs, Vinyls, cassettes, posters, Sweatshirts, and Surprise boxes. Also on Sunday October 5th 2025 Swift dropped her first music video, The Fate of Ophelia. The main track on the album called The Life of a Showgirl also featured Sabrina Carpenter. The Pawpost spoke with two swifties here at Palisade, Juno Townsud and Genevieve Seymour, to get their opinions. Firstly, Townsud said “There were definitely a few songs that were a miss for me, but other than that, I think it was a good album. I definitely didn’t expect it to be pop-y, though… The pictures on the album give off jazz.” She was surprised with the difference between Swift’s last album, the Tortured Poets department and The Life of a showgirl. Also she spoke about the movie watch party that Swift released and that was in theaters from the 3rd to the 5th of October. Secondly, Seymour said that, “I came into it with no expectations at all because I hated the Tortured Poets Department, and it feels like it was too overproduced… so I came into this with no expectations… and then since it was such a busy week the first time I listened to it was Saturday… I feel like the fate of Ophelia was like a really really strong song. I really like Elizabeth Taylor… and then Opalite, and I feel like those three were really strong entries… And I feel like in a way Sabrina Carpenter should have had more of a moment.” It was good to know that there is diversity to our music taste here at Palisade and that Seymour and Townsud listened to this creator enough to give me information.
Previously, Swift had hinted that she was going to drop a new album during her last performance of The Eras Tour. She had run into an orange door instead of taking a lift up and out of her show. On August 12th, 2025, Swift appeared on The New Heights Podcast, which is owned by her fiance, Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason Kelce. They recapped Swift’s actions that took place the past few months, Swift appearing at Travis’s football games, her reclaiming her past records, comparing rerecorded songs to her original songs, and her life after the tour. As well as many questions about her relationship with the Kelce family and how Swift deals with social media, etc. When they finally got to the topic of new music, Swift pulled out a white briefcase and then she revealed a vinyl titled, “The Life of a Showgirl”. When showing this and explaining the album she said “ I would be playing shows three days in a row then I would have three days off and work on this. I was so Physically exhausted at this point of the tour but I was so mentally stimulated and excited to be creating.” This just shows Swift’s dire need to create and make music for not only her fans but also herself. She then said that she had picked the color orange for the album cover because, “It feels energetically how my life has felt and this album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life, during this tour.” She also shined a lot of light onto her producers Max Marin and Shellback that helped her produce these songs. She had produced with them a lot before when she was younger and now that she is older she feels that they click more than ever now. The first song on the track The Fate of Ophelia, is based off of the tragic character, Ophelia in Hamlet and about her life. The front cover on the album also shows Swift in a bathtub which symbolises Ophelia drowning. Her story telling through her song doesn’t only show for her story also others stories.
