Ding Ding! One of the biggest boxing matches in boxing history on September 13th 2025 with legendary Canelo Alvarez and underdog Terence Allan Crawford. This drew over millions of fans and viewers to watch this fight from all over the world to be the most viewed men’s championship fight of the 21st century. This fight became popular over social media, specifically Tik Tok doing crazy dares or small things like buying friends food.
Palisade Junior Jasmely Flores states, “I was very surprised everyone on Tiktok and social media had bets on Canelo saying if he loses they would buy a lot of people’s Starbucks At school specifically, that was crazy to see and shocking because a lot of people had high expectations for Canelo since we haven’t seen him lose until this one. So I feel we made him feel really bad about the loss, especially the speech where Canelo said his body was giving up on him.” Flores was especially affected by Canelo’s loss stating “I felt sad seeing his legacy being affected by this one fight, but losing to a humble person like Crawford made it better.
Although many people wanted Canelo to win, we had a Freshman student at Palisade High School, Liam Contreras stated “Canelo didn’t deserve the win, he was already a champion and Crawford wasn’t.” This shows how Contreras wanted Crawford to win, not only because he thought Crawford deserved, but also because he also states, “I put money on Crawford” People putting money on these fights show how much we enjoyed this boxing match. Bets were also placed on Canelo but also Crawford and his outstanding switch of weight divisions and his high boxing skills. Although Contreras wanted Crawford to win there were more supporters like Flores and Vazquez for Canelo. A Junior at Palisade High School, Mark Vazquez stated, “I was shocked and felt very emotional. It hit me in the gut. I had a lot of confidence in Canelo since his past fights he won by knockouts but I feel like he didn’t try his best. By rewatching the fight I didn’t see his full strength potential.”
The support from both sides of the Canelo and Crawford fight from Palisade High School students show how we each have a variety of opinions of the sports we watch. The Canelo versus Crawford fight was a worldwide boxing match that we got to watch and show our opinions of and why it was fun and important for us to watch to us students. Crawford taking the win had disappointments but also some supporters. This unexpected win had people losing money and doing interesting dares.
