For those of you who don’t know, the Grand Junction Jackalopes are relocating out of Colorado. For the 2025-2026 season the Jackalopes will be staying in the Pioneer Baseball League, it is predicted that they will be relocated to California. The Jackalopes are a part of a MLB partner league that is not related to the NCAA or any other college baseball league. What this means is that the Pioneer league and the MLB do things like, promote each other, transfers players, and more. The reason for the relocation is because the team was having late and missing payments. We don’t exactly know why the team had late payments, but Senior Hunter Sowell says, “they don’t have a lot of attendance.” The Jackalopes last year had a .328 batting average, a .430 on base percentage, and a .536 slugging percentage. They also hit 157 home runs and lead the league in stolen bases with 167. They had a record of 41-55. Unfortunately the Jackalopes did not make it to the playoffs last year, the last time they made the playoffs was in 2018. The Jackalopes have been in Grand Junction since 2012. They also changed their name in 2022 due to wanting to be more separate from the major league team and to represent the town in itself. To conclude the Jackalopes have been a part of our town and have been representing us for some time now, so we want to thank the Jackalopes for playing for us and the fun games.
