Students at Palisade High School have had a rollercoaster of different schedules. As we started off the new year, we had a huge change in our schedule that caught all of the students off guard. Last week, the Palisade admin changed our schedule from alternating block weeks to having all eight classes on Fridays. Freshman Abigale Ellison states, “I like it because it makes the day go by really fast.” Ellison was thrilled to hear about the new schedule and hopes that it stays. She also claims, “Classes seem so much more fun and not as crazy.” The reason for this schedule was that the teachers were having trouble not seeing some of their classes for at most 3 days. The teachers made their concerns known that they were struggling with it.
The issue with the old schedule was that some classes would be working ahead on other assignments, while the different classes were still behind. Those classes were the ones that the teachers didn’t have that week. The teachers were having trouble keeping their classes on the same page, but that wasn’t possible because one class was always going to be behind. Not only did the teachers not like the old schedule, but the students weren’t thrilled about it either. Ellison hated that the classes went by so slowly, and that if you already had that class blocked that week, then you would have double the work. The students are excited about this, but they don’t know that the downside to the new schedule change is that if the teachers notice that attendance rates go down on Fridays, then they will change the schedules back.
