Construction on the wall at the west building is finished for the safety of Palisade staff and students.
According to The Daily Sentinel a District 51 school board meeting took place this week on Tuesday night with tensions rising. Tensions rose due to a crowd outside of the R-5 High School being denied access to the meeting, even though most people in the crowd were teachers for District 51. The crowd was denied access due to there not being enough room to accommodate both for staff to attend the meeting and media to report the meeting. But further through the meeting, it was obvious that there was more than enough area for the others outside. There were only 62 people inside the meeting, while the room had an occupancy of 335, and the crowd outside was just over 70 people thick. The meeting was to cover student and staff safety, class size caps, and teacher payment.
But will this meeting affect Palisade a lot? That was the question asked to Freshman Gus Graham. He stated ,“I think it could if we get enough votes to update our safety.” Although the meeting had problems with a crowd being denied access to the room, it doesn’t affect the students too much. Students think that the most important part of the meeting was what was covered in the meeting but not the issue with people being denied access to the meeting. Because of this most students did not know about the meeting and did not pay much attention to it. This shows that the meeting was not so important to the students but more toward teachers and staff. Although there were issues with the meeting, it mostly went ignored by the people that did not want to attend the meeting and did not think there will be much development from the meeting. Therefore the students of Palisade do not even recognize the fact that the meeting even happened.
