The varsity team after their Rifle tournament.
Palisade’s golf program has a strong goal: to make sure everyone who joins has fun and learns about the sport of golf. But our girls golf team exceeded this goal with a first-place win at the Annual JV Championship. On Wednesday April 30th, almost all of the Palisade girl’s golf team competed in an 18 hole championship at Chipeta Golf course, which is fortunately the Bulldog’s home course. Schools all over the Grand Valley come to Grand Junction to cross the finish line in a fun, exciting tournament. This tournament is especially significant because it closes the JV season, and allows all players to compete individually. Golfers can measure their growth throughout the season with this final tournament, whether they played mostly for varsity or have never played 18 holes by themselves before.
The results of the tournament didn’t disappoint. The Bulldogs ended with a first-place overall win, which was the combined score of the participating Bulldogs. Junior Lili Taylor represented Palisade with a first place win not only in her class but overall as well.
The unity and teamwork that the Dogs had been building, new and old members alike, was displayed during this tournament. Sophomore Teygan Spetter represented a member who joined later on in her high school years. “I thought it would be a fun sport to try out… all my friends were doing it and I thought it would be fun.” commented Spetter. She also spoke about the atmosphere of the day and the feeling of the tournament. Spetter reminisced, “I was a little nervous, but I also was excited for it because I love Chipeta. It’s a fun golf course.” Hosting the final JV tournament at Palisade’s home course gives the Bulldogs and advantage, allowing them a sense of familiarity to calm their nerves. Most importantly, the final tournament gives a sense of relief to the girls, letting them take a step back and reflect on their season.
This may be the end of the season, but not the end of the hard work the Lady Bulldogs will put in during the summer. If you’re missing golf over the summer, be ready for the upcoming boy’s Golf season in August. Go Dogs, and have a great summer!
