Palisade Senior, Ryan Pomeroy, is the Female Athlete of the Week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. Pomeroy is an athlete in soccer where she plays on the Girls Varsity Soccer team at Palisade High School and has been on varsity since her Freshman year. Pomeroy is positioned at outside midfield, center and forward and has been involved with the sport since she was three years old, 15 years now. The love for the sport first sparked through Pomeroy’s strong bond with her dad.

“My dad is the one who got me to play soccer. He played growing up and continues to play now. He coached me all the way through my first year of middle school. I love sharing the sport with my dad and being able to learn from him and play with him.”

Passionate about soccer but also interested in exploring other athletics, Pomeroy has big plans for her post-high school sports journey. “I will continue to play soccer after high school but only on a club team in college. I want to be able to explore other sports that I used to play before high school, such as volleyball and golf.”

Pomeroy’s family act as strong pillars in her life, continuing to provide her with support and encouragement. Her parents are her biggest inspirations, not only in her athletic life, but also in her day to day life.

“My parents support me in every aspect of my life and support me no matter what. They remind me that it is okay to slow down and have a balanced life. I’m very grateful for everything they do for me and I look up to them and their accomplishments.” The unwavering love and guidance from her parents serve as a strong foundation in Pomeroy’s success, both on and off the field, shaping her into the balanced and determined individual she is today.

The head coach for the Girls Varsity Soccer team, Raul De Villegas-Decker, is a witness of Pomeroy’s hard work ethic and her balanced life, which are aspects that he is very appreciative of.

“Ryan is a leader on the field and is an excellent student who is enrolled in concurrent classes at Colorado Mesa University. She was the Western Slope League Assist Leader in the 2024 season and scored four goals last season. Her contributions helped the program win its 2nd league title back-to-back, which is a first for PHS Girls Soccer.”

With the guidance of her parents, coaches, and more, Pomeroy has found her way to achieve high standards and grow in many ways. “My greatest accomplishment in soccer has been my ability to overcome mental struggles like nerves, mental blocks from injuries, and burnout. I am so grateful for the lessons that soccer has taught me in mental toughness and focus.”

The love and bond that Pomeroy’s family has instilled within her for soccer has influenced her into sharing that with her teammates. “My favorite thing about soccer is how it challenges you mentally and physically. I also love all of the friendships I have formed over the years through soccer. As a team, we connect throughout the season and I am able to meet girls who I wouldn’t have the opportunity to meet outside of the sport.”

Pomeroy’s dedication to soccer, her strong family support, and her balanced approach to life and sports have made her an exceptional athlete and role model for her peers. Her drive and passion undoubtedly inspires others. Congratulations, Ryan Pomeroy, for receiving Athlete of the Week!
