On Tuesday night, the FCCLA club (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) hosted their first annual pickleball tournament. The event was a success with a total of 30 teams competing. The tournament began at six-thirty and lasted until almost ten o’clock at night. All you could hear was laughter and fun echoing throughout the Lincoln Park courts all night long. “It was great and it was a lot better than we anticipated,” says senior Lynessa Asplund, who is president of the club. “Mrs. Talley and I came up with the idea.” This is the first year the club has hosted a pickleball tournament. Since July, the club has been planning to execute a pickleball tournament. In the end, the event was a success. All the money and donations from the tournament will go towards the clubs’ travel expenses for their State competition. Another part of the money they made will go towards the “Adopt a Family” program during Christmas time. “My favorite part was seeing how competitive everybody got, especially Admin.” In the end, one team dominated the others. Easton Embrey (senior) and Hunter Howard (junior) took the title in a close final match against Mr. and Mrs. Rush, staff members at the school. Aidan Shaio (sophomore) and Carter Hayward (sophomore) brought home the bronze. Finally, Joey Smith (senior) and Caley Becktell were awarded best dressed showing off their best Adam Sandler couture. The night was fun and a tradition we hope to continue seeing in the future! Thank you FCCLA for hosting the fun memories!
