New soccer season means new beginnings for the team, and fresh starts. Palisade boys soccer has struggled in the past couple years and they had their first game on the 27th of August against the Rifle Bears. The boys Varsity lost 1-4 with a goal from Jayden Ford and an assist from Cy Hobbs. A controversial call from the refs to disallow another goal from Cy Hobbs and the assist coming from Talan DeSpain . The boys JV won 8-0 with goals from Wesley Reimer (Freshman), Graham Carter (Freshman), Luis (Lulu) Rodriguez (Senior), Joshua Rodriguez (Senior), and two goals each from Joel Talavera (Sophomore) and Tyler Norsworthy(Junior). Sophomore Ryan Davis who plays on JV and Swing had 5 assists in the JV game against Rifle. Talan Despain, who is a Sophomore on Varsity stated: “ I do not think we played well at all. Some people in their positions were not doing as good a job as they should have. The ball was also scattered all over the field.” Cy Hobbs was selected as the Palisade player of the game on Maxpreps. Talan also said: “ I believe that Sebastian Urdaneta (Junior) played the best for the team against Rifle. He did a very good job on defense and in playing his passes. Cy also played very well with a goal and assist”. Despite the loss for the first game, the Palisade soccer team still has very high hopes for the upcoming season. Palisade boys soccer plays rivals Central High School on Tuesday the 3rd at Colorado Mesa University.
