Palisade Senior, Lane Holland, is the male athlete of the week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. Holland wrestles in the 175 lb weight class. He has been wrestling since he was three years old. “My family got me into wrestling,” said Holland. “I have a bunch of family members who have wrestled since I was little as well, so it just came naturally to me.” Holland shared his thoughts on the season in general. “We have a pretty strong team and we stick together,” said Holland. “We could be closer as a team outside of wrestling, but other than that we are a strong team inside of wrestling.” Part of this strength comes from Holland himself. “My motivation brings a lot to the team,” said Holland. “I try to keep people going as much as I can without putting them down.”
With every sport comes a challenge, which is a challenge that some athletes learn to love about the sport. “I like that you have to have so much hard dedication to the sport,” said Holland. “Having mental toughness can be a challenge. Thinking about losing or not doing good enough is something that most likely will happen, so being mentally strong and having a good aspect to keep it going is important.” Holland’s cousin, Seth, has inspired him to push through these challenges as a wrestler. “Seth wrestled at Grand Junction a couple of years ago and got a scholarship to CMU to wrestle there,” said Holland. “I always wish I could wrestle the way he does.” Holland’s dedication and his motivation helps lead the team to more success. Congratulations, Land Holland, on athlete of the week!
