Palisade Junior, Sabrina Landman, is the female Athlete of the Week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. Landman plays volleyball and is mostly an outside. “I’ve been playing for a really long time,” said Landman. “My mom started teaching me basic things like my approach and setting hands when I was like 5 or 6. She played volleyball for the University of Houston and Regis University, so she was who got me into the sport.”
Landman has been playing volleyball in high school since her freshman year, but played for Fruita her freshman year. She transferred to Palisade High School her sophomore year and has been playing volleyball for Palisade since. “I love how much of a team sport it is,” said Landman. “Since you can’t touch the ball twice in a row you have to have trust in your teammates and I really love that aspect about the sport. I also love how it’s both a mental game and a physical one.”
Landman shared her other enjoyments other than sports. “I love to paddle board and read. I also love hiking and really just being outdoors.” Being a student athlete in high school, Landman was asked who her motivation is. “My inspiration is probably my papa (grandpa),” said Landman. “He’s such a kind soul and hard worker. He’s always willing to volunteer time to help me with my math work or help coach the Denver east boys basketball team.”
Considering her successes inside of volleyball she said, “Honestly there’s been lots of highs but probably getting to go to Florida for beach nationals a few years ago or playing varsity as a freshman. Both have wonderful experiences with teammates.” Landman’s advice she would give to an incoming freshman athlete is: “Just have fun. Time has flown by really fast and sometimes I forget to enjoy it. Take time to enjoy the presence of your teammates and enjoy the game.” Landman’s hard work she puts into her sport and her teammates is truly an inspiration to everyone around her. Congratulations Sabrina on Athlete of the Week!
